The DBF Golf Tournament – Connecting the Bay Area Baseball Community
The annual Dante’s Boys Foundation Golf Tournament brings together the entire Bay Area baseball community—players, coaches, alumni, families, and longtime supporters—for a common purpose: to give back to the game that shaped us. Each year, this event unites former teammates and rivals alike in support of DBF’s mission to teach the game of life through the game of baseball.
The tournament is more than a round of golf; it is a celebration of shared history, mentorship, friendships, and the values baseball instilled in all of us—discipline, teamwork, resilience, and community. Together, we honor Dante Benedetti’s legacy by ensuring today’s youth have the same opportunities, support, and life lessons we were lucky enough to receive.
One community. One game. One mission.
The DBF Golf Tournament continues to bring us together so we can pass on the lessons, love, and lifelong impact of baseball to the next generation.
The History of the Dante’s Boys Foundation Annual Golf Tournament
Established in 2006 – Bringing the Baseball Community Together to Give Back
The Dante’s Boys Foundation Annual Golf Tournament began in 2006 as a way to honor the legacy of legendary University of San Francisco baseball coach Dante Benedetti, while uniting the Bay Area baseball community for a special day of connection, celebration, and giving back.
What started as a small gathering of alumni and friends has grown into one of the most meaningful annual traditions in the DBF calendar—an event that brings together USF alumni, former players, coaches, families, business partners, Bay Area baseball supporters, and the broader community for a day of purpose, camaraderie, and impact.
A Bay Area Tradition for Nearly Two Decades
Over the years, the tournament has traveled across golf courses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including Marin, Sonoma, Napa, the Peninsula, and the East Bay. Each venue has provided a unique backdrop for reconnecting old teammates, celebrating shared memories, and strengthening the bond between the baseball community and the mission of the Dante’s Boys Foundation.
No matter the location, the purpose has always remained the same:
Reconnect the Bay Area baseball community
Bring together USF alumni, families, and supporters
Celebrate the enduring legacy of Coach Dante Benedetti
Raise funds for youth baseball programs and community partners
From the first tee to the final putt, the event captures the spirit of competition, generosity, and togetherness that Dante instilled in generations of young athletes.
Powering Community Impact Since 2006
Every dollar raised from the DBF Golf Tournament goes directly back into programs, initiatives, and organizations aligned with the foundation’s mission. Proceeds support DBF partner organizations and community projects that help deliver:
Access to baseball for underserved youth
Safe fields and upgraded facilities
Equipment and uniforms for local leagues
Mentorship and leadership programs
Inclusive and adaptive baseball experiences
Opportunities that empower young people through the game
These partnerships reflect DBF’s commitment to working with organizations that share a “like mission”—to strengthen youth, families, and communities through baseball.
Reconnecting Those Who Love the Game
At its heart, the Annual Golf Tournament is a celebration of the sport that shaped so many lives. It brings together:
Former USF teammates
Bay Area high school and college baseball alumni
Community leaders
Coaches and mentors
Families and friends
Supporters who believe in the power of baseball
Each year, the tournament becomes a reunion—of stories, traditions, laughter, and the shared understanding that baseball is more than a game. It is a community, a family, and a vehicle for positive change.
A Tradition That Continues to Grow
Now approaching its 20th year, the Dante’s Boys Foundation Annual Golf Tournament remains a cornerstone event—one that honors Dante’s legacy and fuels the foundation’s ongoing work.
As the tournament continues to grow, the mission stays consistent:
To give back to the game we all love, while creating opportunities for the next generation of young athletes.
